Peacekeepin' time!

A Brazilian First Sergeant teaches Haitian kids the ancient techniques of turning a piece of paper into a flying object.

A humble tribute to those who fight, fought, and those who gave their lives in the name of peace.

Brazil has been commanding the MINUSTAH mission in Haiti since its beginning in 2004 (however, one Chilean general once took command provisionally due to the death of the general who was in charge at the time, Luiz Jaborandy. His name was given to a UN base camp.) and, despite big cuts in personnel, still has a significant number of troops stationed there, though in the present other coutries have depolyed larger numbers of troops such as Bangladesh, Pakistan and China. Many other South American countries also have a significant of troops there, particularly Chile, Uruguay and Argentina, along with nations from around the globe such as Italy, France, Germany, Canada and Japan.

Along with its stabilization mission, UN troops have also aided in several natural disasters in the region, such as the 2010 earthquakes and the Matthew Hurricane in 2016.

Brazil expects to take all its troops out of Haiti by April 2017, and the UN is likely to replace MINUSTAH with a political mission (instead of a military one) as well. Even if the UN decides to extend the mission, it is likely that Brazilian troops will leave anyway due to monetary issues and some internal political pressure. In this event, it is likely that the command of MINUSTAH will be taken over by Canadian forces, which have reportedly already offered themselves for the task.

Tried to apply a few techniques i recently learned on this one. It was also a good practice for drawing the camouflage pattern of the Brazilian Army, commonly known outside as the "Brazilian Lizard"; I don't know if it's just me and my lack of skills, but boy, was it hard! I only managed to do it half-decently this time because of several past drawings in which i had tried and failed. The result more than paid off though, in my opinion. And also, it is always a whole lot of fun to try some new stuff.

And, of course, there are these mistakes you only notice when it's too late/you notice but don't really know how to fix, such as the FAL's stock being weird and the whole gun itself just looking wrong, the rightmost IA-2 looking completely wrong, and its sling being worn the wrong way, and her neck being a tad too long, among a myriad of others. Well, nothing can be done about it now.

By the way, the rifle being used by the Second Lieutenant in the middle and by the woman on the right (stock folded and very, very poorly drawn there) is the IMBEL IA-2, the new standard rifle of the Brazilian army in 5.56x45mm NATO (cue Brazilian Army finally realizing it was a good choice to switch from 7.62 to 5.56 several decades after literally everyone else, including the Brazilian Air Force and Navy, had done so), which is sloooooowly replacing the FN FAL clones. As far as i know, all Brazilian troops in Haiti use the FAL and none have been issued with the IA-2, but i took some artistic license there because it simply looks so damn cool.

Hope you guys enjoy it as much as i did while drawing it!
